The title means that they're HD pictures of Abe, not pictures of AOHD.

Besides the skin, the muscles need to be far more defined, that's my only real qualm about the model, nothing else bothers me very much.
Err, it's the same model, just higher definition. Nothing else has changed.

Hey guys, i modelled all the MOHD characters so i thought I'd pop my head in here and say hi.

As far as character proportions go, all the new models are exactly the same as their old counterparts. The new models have to align exactly with the old model to fit the animation rig. Extra anatomical details and muscle definition has been worked in as extra polygonal detail and normalmap detail, however as rightly mentioned there's loads of these guys on screen at once and lots of extra polygons = lower performance. As a result these guys have an appropriately lower polycount than say, Abe, or the Bigbro. At the distance you see these guys you'd never notice the difference anyway.

Based on your guys opinions what i have done though is go back and ramp up the intensity of the normals on both the scrab and the paramite to make em look more super-ripped like in the concepts. I also did a quick pass over their textures as well to give em a bit of a spit polish and get rid of the 'shiny and smooth' look of their textures, as that seemed to be the general consensus.

As far as colour goes, i use the original 256x256 textures as my colour palette base, so i can assure you they are the same colour as the old models

I appreciate all the feedback (good and bad) and if it's a good suggestion i'll take it on board, so keep the opinions coming!

If you cover up Abe's left eye (the one on the right), then he looks amazing. But there's something not right with the other one. Are the eyes aligning properly? Is it maybe just that the eye's are too reflective??? The eyes need to look more like a glossy ball but with less reflection.. (specular highlights?)

About right eye: I think that's just lighting used in this render or the fact that Abe likes to blink asymmetrically

But seriously, I always give my models a once over after taking an extended break from them so i can see 'em with fresh eyes. I just went back to the paramite and scrab a little early cause the general consensus of the fans resonated with my own opinions on what needed doing.

Offtopic - I was working on something really fun today that i'm interested to hear the fan's reaction to, a little re-imagining of a small item. It's brown and shiny, and quite heavily weathered. Curse these NDA's eh? Maybe i'll be able to convince bossman to let me drip feed you guys some tasty art morsels every now and again

a rock? btw, good work on the models TDA, they're fabarooni . Also, I like the Abe they have at the bottom of the oddworld.com website, doing that sexy pose. He looks a lot cleaner than the original Abe style. Anyone prefer that Abe? (It's the Exodus Abe, isn't it?)

Agreed with that - You've got to be careful of people getting hyped up for stuff and then them expressing their disappointment when things don't quite live up to their expectations.

Keep up the good work and don't let that ever put you off if that happens here, right? You're doing a good job. It's brave of you to come here. :P

I think that perhaps some of Mudokon_Master's confusion comes from the fact that Robotnik is completely irrelevant and inconsequential.
