X-Box, to expensive?

I went to a local computer shop yesterday and woopee the X-Box had arrived big signs and everything.

But then I saw the price:
X-Box console - $650
X-Box DVD remote - $50
Halo - $100
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee - $94.95
Dead or Alive 3 - $96.95

Thats over a grand of stuff there, you'de have to be NUTS to pay all that when you could get a PS2 for only $499 and a couple of games for about $150.

In order to play DVD's on the X-Box you HAVE to buy the seperate dvd remote, with the PS2 you can use the controller.
Now how annoying is that?
Bill Gates is not going to sell many X-Box's if the price stays that high.
I think I'de prefer a PS2.

Ofcoarse it expensive, cause it's only been out not even 24 hours! The price will drop aventually and ps2 is 399 not 499, x box will drop aswell.

Wow that is expensive. Here in the states the counsel cost $360.00 to $400.00 or lower like 200 dollars The games are like 44.00 each including PLS2 games and Game Cube. They are all the same prices here in the States. Come to America you will get a better deal on the systems and games. Much better deal. I wounder if you can have them shiped off to you? Hmm if so then it would cost more because of mailing it over seas. Oh well.

Again people don't remember how much the PlayStation 2 cost when it came out ... it was over $700 in Australia. The PlayStation 2 has been out for 1 1/2 years now, so of course the price has dropped by a lot for it ... it always happens with consoles. If you're willing to wait about a year for the Xbox price to drop, then it will do so too.

Paramiteabe ... Australian dollars are approximately double a US dollar, so yes, the console itself is slightly higher than the US price, but the games are around the same. Although my Xbox was originally bought over by someone on their flight to Australia, the cost to get it shipped back to me after it was repaired was around $300 Aus, so generally it would be a lot more expensive to buy a US Xbox like I did, plus you need a step down power transformer for $200 Aus. Costs aside though, it was worth it to have Munch three months early!

Before I read your post, I was wondering what the exchange rate was. I agree that at about double a $US, the prices are quite comparable to those here.

The PS2 cost £300 on lauch here but it didn't have a hard drive or an excelent graphical processor, etc...
But now it costs £200. The Xbox has only just launched andit costs £300

I don't know why people keep criticising the Xbox's price as it is the same as the PS2's price was on its launch.

I was just refering to Naxos post. He had to pay $650.00 plus $94.00 for games? That is a lot of money no matter where you live in the world. The bottom line is that no matter wher you live in this world it is going to cost people a pretty penny. I hope in a year the prices will go down because around here the PLS 2 is still the same price. I havent notice a drop in prices on PLS 2 yet where I live. Luckily for me I got PLS 2 as a gift at my High school graduation.

He lives in Australia. As Abe Babe said, the Australian dollar equates to about half a US dollar, so those prices are about the same as in the US. In fact the games might be cheaper, depending on what the exact exchange rate is.

if I am not mistaken the tax is included in the retail price of things is it not? makes quite a difference on $650 things.

I think Abe Babe is right, X-Box will drop to about $450 or lower in a year or more. But if X-Box is so popular that it becomes really hard just to get your hands on one then it will stay expensive, I hope that doen't happen

Well, the prices at my stores must kick ass! Breakdown: 250 dollars U.s. for the XBOX, and forty for a game. The remotes are only twenty five here. It is fifty dollars more for the Xbox than for the PS2....Big slipdidee, I prefer the box, and 50 smacks can't keep me from it. Too expensive my ass!

I thought the pricing was fine for a next gen console, aswell as the games and acceccories. I am kinda poor, but I already have XBOX, two controlers, eight games, and the DVD playback remote... maybe I'm not poor after all.

The Xbox will lower in price but it is a lot of money to pay for games. Video games cost heaps though, no matter where you live in the world. It's new technology and it's damn impressive technology. I reckon Gamecube will have the edge though with it's cheaper price. I hope not. Xbox is the ultimate. Aust's prices are comparable to the rest of the world too.

$100 between consoles is nothing, besides more teenagers and adults prefer XBOX and PS2 over NGC, many gamers are turned off by games targeted to children... except children of course.
