I don't know how "great" it was, but one of the most memorable and funniest things that has ever happened to me in a video game was in Half-Life (I can't remember if it was regular or OpFor). There is a weird internal tower with an anti-gravity thingy in the middle, and you have to leap up story by story, which is possible because of the low gravity in the tower, killing aliens at each level while you make your way to the top.
I got frustrated in there one day, so I looked at my feet and dropped a grenade to off myself. Because I was in this anti-gravity tower, the grenade killed me and blew me all the way to the top, five or six stories up! I couldn't move because I was dead, but from the scenery going by it looked like I was riding a rocket. It was completely unexpected and definitely one of the funnier moments in (my) gaming history.
