Greatest gaming achievements

What's the best thing you've done in a video game?

Mine would have to be discovering a cheat in the Master System 2 game Chuck Rock 2. That's about it though.

How about you?

Mine would be to discover a cheat in hogs of war by just simply messing about.

I don't know how "great" it was, but one of the most memorable and funniest things that has ever happened to me in a video game was in Half-Life (I can't remember if it was regular or OpFor). There is a weird internal tower with an anti-gravity thingy in the middle, and you have to leap up story by story, which is possible because of the low gravity in the tower, killing aliens at each level while you make your way to the top.

I got frustrated in there one day, so I looked at my feet and dropped a grenade to off myself. Because I was in this anti-gravity tower, the grenade killed me and blew me all the way to the top, five or six stories up! I couldn't move because I was dead, but from the scenery going by it looked like I was riding a rocket. It was completely unexpected and definitely one of the funnier moments in (my) gaming history.

Shoot, just getting past all those jumping puzzles in ANY Half-Life game qualifies for a medal. Wouldn't you expect most of the animals in Xen to have powerful haunches, or even wings?

Well, the best moment in all gaming history was the perfect score on Pac-Man: 3,333,360.

But my best moment was beating Sonic The Hedgehog 2 with Tails. That was the first game that I ever played...

Ages ago, someone who my mum childminded played Sonic the Hedgehog (MS2) all day and they got onto Stage 3 (the boss) of the last level. Then she died when she had nearly killed Dr. Robotnik.

I don't play games enough to have managed many of these, but there are two things which stuck in my head:

1. Managing to Quiksave AE just as I was falling down a hole. I kept getting resurrected and instantly dying so fast that I didn't have time to pause the game to try and quit... In the end I just had to ctrl-alt-delete the damn thing...

2. (Of interest only to Tom) I finally managed to make that jump that neither of us could manage on Star Wars Episode I Racer...

Beating raystorm and Einhander with less than 9 restarts, every level beaten in skullmonkeys, good karma rating in Munch's Oddysee
