I first tried MO, it crashed twice within a minute of playing each time, so I haven't bothered playing it since. I tried Stranger's Wrath. Framerate is noticably (slightly) laggy even on my new high-end HP Envy laptop. The default mouse control is silly. Am I right in saying that most people would prefer moving the mouse up to rotate the camera to face upwards? And vice versa? I tried altering the controls for this, and it didnt do anything -_-.. maybe that's my fault somehow though, I'll try again.

And as for AO and AE, I've played them so many times already. We need need another platformer like them! With the awesome artwork!

I don't actually have the Oddboxx yet, so I can't comment on it exactly- but has anyone else seen the Oddboxx logo on the official Oddworld site? If you look closely (it's even easier to see if you click the image to zoom in), you can see 'The Art of Oddworld Inhabitants- The First Ten Years' text behind the logo? It's slightly covered up by the main circle of the logo, but the text appears just above and below it, centered.

Does anyone know if that is supposed to be visible or not?

AO and AE are still great fun, they have an almost timeless quality going for them. Stranger is exactly how I remember it on my Xbox. I haven't encountered any crashing after the tutorial and the game is functioning perfecting with a controller. Munch has crashed three times for me so I'm putting that on hold for later. Overall the games feel exactly as they were when I played them on Xbox and I think I'll have a lot of fun with them provided I can get goddamn Munch working.

Review

I bought it the moment it came out. I played the first 2 games so many times and was really sad when I heard that munch and stranger wasn't coming out on the ps2.

So I was really looking forward to the PC editions. Sad thing is Munch crashes every 5 seconds when playing. And stranger won't even launch (steam gives an error saying that the game is not currently available).

So I'm waiting for some feedback on how to resolve these issues, I hope to be able to play them soon.

Stranger's Wrath is running fine for me if I play it on Low graphic setting. Don't know how it lags so fucking much on Medium or High (I'm afraid to test Ultra) because I have a gaming computer that is able to run most games very well with no lag.

Munch is currently unplayable for me. I've tried collecting the spooce and leaving the first area, but I just can't. It crashes when I collect too much spooce or when I chant the lock. It's unplayable right now.

EDIT: Forgot AO and AE.

Abe's Oddysee is as brilliant as it's always been, I love the game. Kinda sad that they didn't put achievements in it, but I understand that.

Abe's Exoddus is great too, I really enjoy it and might play it through again soon.

Downloaded SW last night, was actually unbearably slow. Had to quit and I'm hoping I can fix it soon. MO finished today, so I'll be trying it later. Might as well wait till they've patched everything though.

AO & AE are brilliat, finally I have them on Steam. In MO I can't even get out of the menu, as the game restarts my PC/freezes it. Stranger's better, as menu works normally, but stage loading screen displays forever. (Hey, how much it takes to load the first level for you?)

It's not PC being guilty... It would be worse if they were e.g. PS3 ports, since there could be no patches for them at all.

There are patches for PS3 and 360 all the time. My point is that with a pc, I would have to be trying to figure out how to configure my computer to run it. Plus, it seems like the process that allows a game to release is much more strict on the PS3 and 360.

If you have that sort of problems with a particular game that means it's programmed badly

This might sound stupid.... but what kind of lag are you talking about here? Frame rate dipping? Or input lag?

Uh... framerate lag I suppose. When I first tried to play it on high graphics it just lagged like hell. The camera was almost unmovable, everything responded late, moving was choppy. That kind of lag.

On 1680x1050 I sometimes get a bit of input lag but never frame rate lag.. but it can look like framerate lag.. its hard to describe And its only ever for a slight moment, not a constant thing.

Wow, so it's really buggy huh? Neglectful beta testers.
This is the PC gamer's curse (and why I gave up PC gaming after the first Bioshock).
Push the game out the door, wait for people to complain about the countless bugs, and release a patch for it later.
Lorne and co had years to buff out all the kinks, so there's no excuse for it to not work. I understand console porting is a bitch but come on.

Hold on guys, it appears that JAW has realised their problems and have announced they'll be fixing bugs on their website.

www.oddworld.com < just to save you having to type it in. Also they've given the oddboxx a sexy looking decal.

That is a problem related to Steam. Here are ways to fix it... https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...4595-WEXN-6831

Step 2 worked for me - namely, updating DirectX, PhysX, and Visual C++

Small company without much resource had say... 6 months or less to port to PC? Thats NOT years! And most people who are having issues either don't meet the spec or have something wrong with their setup (out of date drivers, no directx, no visual c++ runtime etc).

The bugs are also not countless, there is about 1 major issue with MO that crashes the game, and 1 major issue with SW that causes a "blank screen". Other things are minor such as slight graphical glitches and things like that which are easy to iron out.

I guess I am being a bit unfair.
I keep forgetting that only 1/12th of the time OWI has been under was actually dedicated to assembling the Oddboxx. In the grand scheme of things, the Oddboxx is really just JAW throwing us a bone until they produce something more worthwhile.

I like the PC for the same reasons OANST doesn't. Everything is buggy for the first couple of days, but then they fix it in pretty much the amount of time it takes to complain about it.

So yeah. Good thing I didn't bother installing it today.

Here's hoping that the patches will be rolled out before the end of the January Sale.
How does the resolution on the PC games compare to their xbox equivalents? Are the textures smoother or nicer?

What does the 'low' graphics setting look like?

For Stranger you get four preset resolutions to choose from, and you can add custom resolutions in the config file, but the games lags like hell at high resolutions for most people.

There's no graphics settings, just resolution settings. Low to Ultra all have the same textures, shadows, shaders etc. When you add AF to the game (through your card driver) the game looks noticeable clearer than the Xbox version, but it's essentially the same game only in HD.
